John Tooke

John Tooke joined Horizon Mortgage in April 2007 and prior to that time he had a working relationship with N.J. Olivieri in which they worked together on a number of transactions. Prior to joining Horizon, John’s background started with the mortgage banking business in that he worked with Banker’s Life out of Des Moines, Iowa and started his career in the origination of single family, multifamily and commercial mortgages for insurance companies. From there he entered into the mortgage banking business primarily with a company called Banco Mortgage, then Houton Paige, and John eventually ended up in charge of all national sales and origination for their commercial and multifamily mortgages on a nationwide basis. At the time he left Houton Paige, they were one of the largest producers of multifamily and commercial mortgages in the United States. John then went into the investment banking area with Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley in New York and later with Drexel Burnham and Security Pacific Merchant Bank in California. John was a Senior Vice President and eventually a Managing Director in these different companies, and his primary responsibility was in the origination, underwriting, structuring, and marketing of multifamily and commercial projects as well as being involved in the buying and selling of real estate. The buying and selling of real estate and the financing of real estate was done on a project by project basis as well as securitization, putting together pools of commercial mortgages and multifamily mortgages in large pools with both Drexel and Security Pacific Merchant Bank. They were handling between $4,000,000,000 to $5,000,000,000 a year in volume at that time. John has continued in the investment banking business, again specializing in the origination of multifamily and commercial mortgages as well as the buying and selling of real estate.

During John’s time on Wall Street, his role in senior management included full involvement of all the projects from the origination of the business, the underwriting, the structuring, and the marketing of the product. He was also naturally involved in many of the commercial mortgage backed securities as well as private placements of mortgage backed bonds. In addition, he was involved with placing REIT instructors including hotel leads, etc. whereby he structured and marketed these products under the different aspects of financing for Wall Street.

Additionally, John holds a Real Estate Broker’s License both in Florida and California, a Mortgage Broker’s License in Florida and California, and he has a Securities License Series 7, Series 24, Series 63, etc. He is fully licensed in all phases of securitization and has a Bachelor’s of Science in Real Estate from California Baptist College in California.
